Ken Laurence
BIOGRAPHY

As a native of Birmingham, Alabama, Ken Laurence did not have the exposure to fashion that many of his peers had. At the early age of 10 year old, his interest in fashion design ignited from an extended family member whom leisure pursuit was in fashion illustration. Subsequent to his observation, he began sketching with a newfound desire. By the age of 14, Laurence enrolled himself in a home economics class, where he was educated to operate his first sewing machine. After mastering fashion illustration and sewing basics, his willpower increased by educating himself on pattern making, textiles and all the likes of fashion design. Ken Laurence soon began his career as a self-taught fashion designer by creating custom clothing for clients through the southern region. Deciding that he needed a larger launching pad, Ken auditioned for NBC season 1 “Fashion Star” and Lifetime’s television show “Project Runway” seasons 10 and 11. Although his attempts to be a contestant were unsuccessful, he made it as a semifinalist for both seasons 10 and 11 for “Project Runway.”
With faith, determination, resilient and confidence to follow his dream; the world was introduced to a 24 year old outspoken fashion designer from Birmingham, Alabama in the spring of 2013. Ken Laurence, a contestant on Lifetime’s Emmy nominated television show Project Runway season 12,
stood apart from his fellow competitors’ immediately through his designs, candor approach , and southern charm. Since his successful run on Project Runway, Ken Laurence has been diligently claiming his place in the fashion industry.
Through his vision of the edgy, chic and sophistication woman, Laurence plans to capture the fashion industry by astonishment. To portray his mission as an emerging self-taught fashion designer, he declares, “eyes have not seen, ears have not heard nor has it entered into the hearts of man…”
